What not to wear!

There is something about photographing engagement sessions that I truly love.. Being engaged is a beautiful stage of life, their is so much eagerness of what lies ahead, the anticipation, the coutdown to the wedding day and of course! the wedding talk!! As the wedding season is starting to bloom, we have been busy photographing engagement sessions of the couples getting married this year, so you can only imagine how much wedding talk I have been indulging myself into with the brides-to-be. But latley one question I have been getting asked a lot by couples is usually, “what should we wear for our engagement session?”

So here are a few tips that you may want to consider before deciding on what to wear for your engagement session..

Let’s start off with some basic items NOT to wear..

  • Plain white or black shirts, tops, sweaters etc..white shirt+black pants, not fun & very bland!!
  • Heavily patterned outfits or stripes because patterns tend to go out of style quickly .
  • Exact matching outfits! Now, i always tell couples to match in their outfit styles but don’t try to wear exact same matching colors..
  • Stay away from extremley tight jeans and pants, because they restricts movement

What to wear:

  •  Wear something that you feel comfortable in. And always bring 1-2 extra outfits to change in to to add more variety to your engagement shoot.
  • Wear something you guys love & enjoy but stick to a particular style, for example, urban look (jeans with a beautiful top/shirt, dressy look (cocktail dress etc..) etc ..
  • Try to layer your clothes..
  •  Footwear- Wear the shoes that you LOVE (ladies, you know what I am talking about). Shoes can help define your look even further. Bright & funky shoes look amazing in photos, and if matched properly with your outfit can really bring out your outfit..On a side note, some shoes look great, but can be extremley uncomfortable to walk in, so always bring a comfy pair of shoes to walk around in..
  •  Accessories- I personally love to accessories and always recommend girls to over accessorize for the shoot, and if it’s too much we can always take stuff off..Some fun & exciting accessories that are in soo much style right now are: bangles, earrings, scarves, headbands, belts etc..just remember accessories can really help spice up your outfit!!
  •  Bring a Prop! – such as an umbrella, perhaps an instrument that you play, sunglasses, basically anything that defines your relationship and makes your shoot unique!

To sum it all up, an enagement session is a great way to document this stage of your life, your relationship & you as individuals. So at the end what really matters is to be yourself, wear what you love, & be ready to have some FUN!!

And because every post should end with a picture or two,  here are a few images from this weekend, that Harp captured of me while in “action”.. enjoy!
